Degrees are studied at a university or a further or higher education college and last between three and five years. The length of your degree can depend on a number of different factors including the course you choose, whether you take a sandwich/industry placement year and whether you study full/part-time. A degree can lead you straight to chartered or incorporated status of one of the professional institutes, such as
- Institution of Civil Engineers
- Institution of Structural Engineers
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- Royal Institute of British Architects
- Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland
Degrees are a lot more focused on a specific job role than vocational qualifications and will require more specific entry requirements, so it can be a good idea is to select a course which is accredited by an appropriate and recognised professional institution. These are highly regarded in the construction industry. To find out more visit www.ucas.co.uk/
