Yes, you get paid by your employer so you will earn while you

Yes, you can do this through an apprenticeship. This will
involve working for an employer and attending college on day or

How old do I have to be to start an apprenticeship?
You have to be 16 to start an apprenticeship in England and
Wales. You can be 15 to start an apprenticeship in
Scotland.
What qualifications do I need to do an apprenticeship?
To go into a craft role, such as roofing, steeplejacking or
painting & decorating, you will need a good basic education to
GCSE/Scottish Standard level or equivalent. Maths and English will
be helpful.
To follow a technical route, like a surveyor, civil engineer,
architect or estimator, then you'll need four good GCSE/Scottish
Standard grades, A Levels/Scottish Highers or equivalent
grades.
What qualifications do I need to do a degree in
construction?
It will depend on what course you are interested in and where
you want to study.
You'll usually need a minimum of two A Levels/more than two
Scottish Highers. Some courses will also prefer a science or maths

How do I get an employer to give me a job?
CITB-ConstructionSkills can offer advice with this and notify
you of any vacancies we are aware of, but you do need to look for
an employer yourself. This will make the whole process a lot
easier.

employer. Don't forget to make contact with any employers that
you've done work experience with.
How easy is it to get a job with a degree in construction?
The construction industry welcome graduates with not only
construction associated degrees but also more diverse degrees. So
don't worry if you have a degree in, for example, History or
Business Management, there are still jobs out there for you!

Is it more difficult for women to make it in the industry?
The sector is working really hard to overcome traditional
stereotypes and achieve a construction industry workforce which is
fully representative of society. Whoever you are, you'll be more
than welcome and the construction sector has a career for you!
Do construction graduates earn a good wage?
Yes they do. Starting as a graduate offers a broad opportunity
to develop a better wage. For example, if you start on a Management
Training Programme, the training and development will stand you in
good stead for the future.

I do next?
You need to find the right job, which means researching the type
of company you would like to work for and the type of role you want
