Which company do you work for?
I work for Granger Building Services and they are roof sheeters
and cladders.
What are the good bits about your job?
What I like about my apprenticeship is working outside. I like
when summer comes and you can work outside in the sun when it's
nice and warm. I also like being able to turn my hand to metalwork
when I'm outside of work. It's a good skill to have.
Why did you choose this career?
I chose my apprenticeship because I left school at 15, I
finished my exams and I couldn't get a job, so I started working
with my uncle. But it wasn't full-time so I kept applying for
different jobs and then I saw an apprenticeship come up for the
Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative. I'm really enjoying it.
What do you do day-to-day?
I'm currently working on the Glasgow Velodrome at the moment.
I'm moving on to the cladding after I finish this. I'm obviously at
college at the moment but I finish off tomorrow, back onto cladding
next week when I get a wee shot at it!
What's the coolest thing you've done so
far?
The thing I'm most proud of has got to be working on the Glasgow
Velodrome because it's such a big, high profile job that's always
on the news. It's good because I work next to Celtic Park as well
and that's my team!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years time I see myself still working in roofing. Maybe
abroad like Australia as abroad there's a lot better money in my
trade. After my apprenticeship I'm going to be doing my NVQ.
