Ames Taper
Ames Tapers (sometimes known as drylining operatives) work on a construction site or in commercial areas, putting in place dry finishes such as plasterboard and wall board. These are then fixed up and joined together so they are ready to receive decorative finishes.

What's involved
All types of buildings are worked on, with large areas divided
into rooms using metal stud partitioning systems such as
plasterboard and wall board. These are then fixed up, joined
together and decorated.
Skills required
This is an indoor-only role but, as in most construction work,
you need to be fit. You should also have good numeracy skills, as
you'll be calculating surface areas and volumes.
In addition, you'll need to be able to read plans, diagrams, and
information sheets and be able to follow instructions.
Qualifications required
There are no formal requirements although it would help to have
Standard Grades in English and Maths.

If you decide to progress into supervisory, design or management
roles there are opportunities to study for:

Technical, supervisory and management SVQ qualifications
(SCQF Levels 6 to11)

HNC Construction or a number of other built environment HNC/HND
qualifications (SCQF Levels 7 or 8)

Degree level qualifications in a number of construction
disciplines (SCQF Levels 9 to 12)
