What's involved
A civil engineering technician's main role is to act as a link
between engineers, the management team and the operatives on a
construction site. They make sure that everything runs smoothly and
check the quality of the work and report back on progress.
Skills required
You'll need to be able to read and interpret technical drawings
and data. Good communication skills are important and enjoying
working as part of a team would also come in handy.
Qualifications required
A minimum of four Standard Grades at 3 or above, or equivalent,
are usually required including Maths.

Progression from this pathway
A civil engineering technician can move on to careers in design,
finance, sales and management within construction. You could study
for:
- Technical, supervisory and management SVQ qualifications
(SCQF Levels 8 to11)
- A number of other built environment HND qualifications (SCQF
Level 8)
- Degree level qualifications in a number of construction
disciplines (SCQF Levels 9 to 12
