What's involved
In this job, a maintenance operative develops their knowledge of
the core construction trades such as plastering, carpentry &
joinery, bricklaying, painting & decorating, plumbing and
roofing.
Maintenance operatives need to have really good knowledge of how
to work safely as they become involved in so many different
trades.
Skills required
You'll need to enjoy working indoors and outdoors and be able to
cope with all weather conditions. This job is quite physical so
being fit is important, as well as being good at working with your
hands.
Being co-operative and team-orientated is also important and you
need to be versatile to learn such a variety of trades. The job
also requires a good knowledge of calculations.
Qualifications required
There are no formal requirements although it would help to have
GCSE's in English or Welsh and Maths at A*-C (Applications from
students with the Foundation or Intermediate Welsh Baccalaureate
are also welcomed).

Progression routes
Maintenance operatives will be able to progress to:
• Apprenticeship (Level 3) in Bricklaying, Carpentry &
Joinery, Wall and Floor Tiling and Painting & Decorating.
