What's involved

Piling operatives usually start out assisting on anything from mini piling to large diameter rotary base grouting, or even monitoring ground conditions.

Skills required

You'll need to be highly resilient, flexible and prepared to work anywhere at the drop of a hat. Ideally you will be the practical outdoor type, self-sufficient and prepared to travel and work away from home most of the time.

You must be prepared to learn about all the health and safety conditions that are implemented on site. There could be huge repercussions for not only yourself but others around you, including members of the public, if the whole operation is not carried out correctly.

Qualifications required

There are no specific requirements although good results in Maths and English will help you in your future career.

You'll also need to be over 18 years of age and many companies like people to have had some life and work experience after they've finished school.
