African adventures on BBC One
Has the recent BBC One series Mission Africa inspired you to get into construction?
Just back in the UK now that filming has ended, Sheara Singh, one of the ConstructionSkills apprentices who took part in the programme described the experience as 'truly amazing – what dreams are made of'.
The show saw 15 young construction trainees travel to Kenya where they had just six weeks to build a game reserve. The experience was one that they will never forget and was full of challenges – at one point the team was marooned by a dry river bed with no water and to make matters worse a bull elephant to keep them company.
24 year old Sherara is a strong and determined Joiner. His skills made him a natural choice for team leader during filming, taking younger team mates under his wing and acting as a motivator and mentor for the rest of the group. He says his experience of constructing the reserve in Africa matured him and 'made me look at the bigger picture, there is a greater world out there, and a lot more to life than going out drinking with my mates.'
