A lightening fast texter? Ever thought how you could use these skills in an exciting career?
 
If you’re a fan of technology and machinery and you have good hand to eye co-ordination then Plant Operation could be right up your street!?

It takes a great deal of skill and control to operate a digger precisely. And when you’re digging out the footings for a major housing project or excavating earth in a main road way with water pipes and telephone cables in, you need to be precise!

You will need to train to be a digger driver and qualify for a CPCS card before you can go out and work on a construction site. But once you’ve completed this training you will find that plant operatives are highly regarded members of the construction team on site – and as a result get paid pretty well!

You can even set up your own business, like Ben Miller from Norfolk, “I enjoy working outside, there are no restraints, and I also liked the idea of being my own boss. I started working for a local landscaper and it seemed like a very lucrative industry, so I thought that’s what I need to be doing for myself. Plus I love the machinery, I’ve wanted my own digger for a long while.”
He’s now working as a Plant Equipment Hire Company and Plant Operative.

And another career you could consider is Plant Technician, if you like cars and mechanics all these pieces of big kit on major construction sites need maintaining, because if they breakdown the whole project can ground to a halt!

So it’s a job with major responsibility, but it’s one that Edward really enjoys:
"The job's varied, which I love - you get to touch on lots of different work aspects. For example, I do welding, work on electrics, fuel and hydraulic systems, all sorts. I really, really enjoy it!"
