Construction is a fast-moving industry. We'll keep you informed of all the latest from the world of construction.

UCAS deadline fast approaching

January 15th is the main deadline for University applications to UCAS, so if you're applying for a construction and the built environment degree don’t miss out.

There's a high demand for new entrants in the Construction Industry and numerous graduate opportunities. When you enter the industry with a degree in hand you can expect plenty of responsibility right from the start. Graduate careers in the construction industry fall into three main categories: design, surveying and planning.

Before a construction project can get off the ground, creative people, financial experts and legal professionals all play a part. Once the project's actually started, construction managers, engineers and surveyors organise all the people working on the site to ensure the end result matches the original designs. See Karen Nugent’s case study to find out about Architecture.

Then surveyors use specialised equipment to make important decisions about building locations, and to ensure structures are safe and environmentally friendly. You’ll need to be observant and enjoy working with detailed maps and contracts. See Neil Clubbs Mric’s case study to find out about Building Surveying.

Construction and project managers make sure everything is completed on time and on budget. Problem solving, negotiation skills and people management all form a big part of the work. Once the buildings up and the occupants are in, facilities managers look after everything from security to general maintenance – making this a dynamic and rewarding job where no two days are the same. See Amy Smith’s case study to find out about Planning.
