What do you do day-to-day?
After a few years training and experience, I now own my own business, so the work varies enormously depending on what the customer needs doing. I really enjoy restoration work. I recently worked on a listed building where I had to make an old stone staircase look as though it was made out of marble.

What advice would you give prospective students?
Find something you like doing and you're halfway there. If you're happy you will find it a lot easier to get on. I don't think there are any disadvantages to being a woman in the industry.

Why did you choose your career?
I used to help my parents with DIY projects at home and really enjoyed rolling up my sleeves and working with my hands. I liked the thought of doing painting and decorating because I could set up my own business, be my own boss.
