Working on a construction site, or in commercial or domestic areas, wall and floor tilers use coloured and textured tiles to decorate the inside of buildings, kitchens and bathrooms. They also work on large floors in airports, shopping centres and factories.
Tilers specialise in preparing surfaces and covering floors and
walls with tiles.
They work on a wide range of projects; from tiling household
bathrooms or kitchens, to fitting tiles in commercial, industrial
and leisure premises. Some specialise in more creative or heritage
The job is varied so you need to be flexible, adaptable and
happy to travel. You also need to be good with figures to ensure
you calculate the right amount of tiles for the work and follow
design plans correctly.
There are no formal requirements although it would help to have
Standard Grades in English and Maths.

Wall and Floor Tiling apprentices can be involved with new
builds and refurbishments. If you decide to progress into
supervisory, design or management roles there are opportunities to

- HNC Construction or a number of other built environment HNC/HND
qualifications (SCQF Levels 7 or 8)
- Degree level qualifications in a number of construction
disciplines (SCQF Levels 9 to 12)
